At The Metropolitan we are comited to making as little impact on the envronment as possible

bio d pick

Bio-D is an independent, family-owned, ethically motivated company, dedicated to promoting the use of hypoallergenic, environmentally responsible detergents that have a minimum impact on the ecosystem both in their use and in their manufacturing process. Where possible, all raw materials are plant-derived and are obtained from renewable sources.

We operate a strict policy whereby none of our raw materials or finished products are tested on animals. We have a fixed cut-off date of 1988. All raw materials are free from genetically modified ingredients; animal by-products and we are subject to scrutiny and approval by The Vegan Society, Naturewatch Trust, BUAV and The World Wildlife Foundation.

All bottles, containers and packaging contain optimum levels of recycled materials and are themselves recyclable.

Many of the ingredients contained in conventional household cleaners, detergents and soaps are known to have detrimental and damaging effects on the environment and humankind. A passage from the research booklet, "Water Quality in Catchment Ecosystems" by A.M.Gower, reads…"of the pharmaceutical products, detergents, cosmetics and other similar domestic products and their metabolites (ingredients), greater quantities are discharged into sewers from domestic premises than from the premises manufacturing them."

As part of our water saving efforts we have installed Ecocamel shower heads in all our showers .

So how is it possible for Ecocamel shower heads to give you a real power shower feel, whilst actually consuming less water?

The Design

Ecocamel showerhead designCreating a water efficient, powerful showerhead was a huge challenge that took us thousands of man hours of design and testing before the first models came into production.

In essence, air is forced into the water stream through a small hole at the base of the handle. When the water and air mix, this mixture spins around at high speed causing turbulence which increases the pressure inside the shower head. This forces water out of the showerhead with all the power of a regular shower, but uses up to 45% less water.

A Better Shower

An Ecocamel Injet shower has a clear advantage over its regular showerhead rivals: The water droplets that are produced are much lighter and softer - so they burst considerably easier on the skin, soaking you much more efficiently without splashing everywhere. Normal droplets just bounce off you so you have to use more water to get you wet. And if you're using more water, you're not saving money.

Test Results

Our claims are all backed up by the most thorough testing to make sure we meet the strictest water efficiency criteria.

Independent testing at Liverpool John Moores University demonstrated average water savings of 40% compared to that of standard shower heads. This translates to a saving of around 56,000 litres of water a year, based on a family of four taking a daily seven-minute shower.
